Soil Sampling

01

Request a special sampling bag at one of the soil points. It will be accompanied by the sampling instructions, a special label indicating the sample data and shipping instructions.

02

The number of samples we should take must be at least 5 samples / 10 acres of uniform field throughout its area.

03

We clean the sampling point from the presence of weeds.

04

Insert a small shovel into the ground to get a deep section of the soil up to 30cm or 30-60cm.

05

Place each sample in the plastic container and mix well to create a composite sample.

06

We take from the composite sample 500-600 grams. soil and place it in the special sampling bag.

07

When sending the sample, the following must be indicated:

  • Sample number
  • Producer details
  • Field location
  • Sampling depth
  • Sampling date
  • Cultivation type

When sending the sample, the following must be indicated:

08

The sample is sent for analysis according to the shipping instructions.

Useful Tips

Sampling Period:

  • Sampling should be done early, before planting, or in early spring.

Tools required:

  • Specially made sampler or small shovel or straight shovel.
  • Plastic bags 30 × 40 cm.
  • Permanent writing marker.
  • Sampling sheets (labels) for indicating data.
  • Plastic container.

What should you watch out for;

  • Do not rush to start if you have not precisely identified the sampling area.
  • If your field is uneven, identify areas that are uniform (eg have the same slope or texture, etc).
  • Create a composite sample for each uniform area.
  • Do not hesitate to write down the sampling plan on paper.
  • Because proper sampling can bring you significant financial benefits, try to follow the sampling instructions carefully.
  • Make sure the tools you use are clean from previous use to avoid contamination between samples.
  • Never use tools, containers or sampling bags previously used to apply fertilizers or conditioners.

Locate field coordinates

Below you can see in detail the ways in which you can find the coordinates of the field in the context of soil, leaf and irrigation water analysis.

Instant way to find coordinates through photos by using your smart phone

  1. In Phone settings, activate Location (so that the phone can receive GPS data)
  2. In the photo app settings, enable Location Tags (to save the coordinates of each photo)
  3. Take a photo in a central part of the field that is the subject of the analysis and send the photo by email to your agronomist (where you will deliver the sample)

Use free applications on your smartphone

Indicatively, the GPS Map Camera application (available for free) is mentioned:

  1. Download and install:
    1. Android Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jkfantasy.gpsmapcamera&hl=el&gl=US
    2. Apple/IOS, App Store: https://apps.apple.com/il/app/gps-map-camera-geotag-photos/id1503116917
  2. Use the application and send a photo with location information to your agronomist (where you will deliver the sample)

Alternative recordings instead of coordinates.

  1. In the sheet that accompanies the sample, in the field of coordinates, instead of coordinates, record one or more of the following or attach a photocopy of the relevant document:
    1. the number "Paper. Background / Other / Old" which is available in the IACS and ELGA declarations together with contact details of the office with which you cooperate for the submission of the IACS and ELGA declaration
    2. the sketch of the parcel printed by the IACS application
    3. the National Land Registry Code Number (KAEK) from the Land Registry declarations (referred to as the “Property Code”) together with contact details of the office with which you cooperate for the submission of a Land Registry declaration
    4. the topographic diagram of a plot of land of his declaration in the Land Registry
    5. the distribution data if the plot is within distributions and there is a concession from the Department of Agriculture or a purchase or parental benefit contract, etc:
      1. The farm to which the plot belongs
      2. The chronology of the farm
      3. The item number and
      4. The extent
    6. The concession from the Department of Agriculture or a purchase or parental benefit contract etc. to which the distribution details refer
  2. In this way we will be able to locate the field in cooperation with the DAOK of the area or with the office with which you cooperate for the submission of IACS and ELGA declaration or with the office with which you cooperate for the submission of the Land Registry declaration.
